All’s well

Well, for the most part. Ethan has come down with a fever, but other than that – we’re all doing all right. I haven’t posted since I was in South Carolina last week with Sam’s parents. Mrs. VV is happy to be out of the hospital and back home and her recovery is still progressing, although slowly. I stayed up there with them for a few days and returned on Wednesday.

This week has seemed to be a bit of a blur since I was gone for part of it, but we’re getting back into the swing of things. One of my good friends (Beth Cattunar) is coming down to visit this coming Thursday for the weekend. I’m looking forward to catching up with her and spending some time hanging out.

I’ll try to keep posting more consistently. J

Monday evening and Mrs. VV is heading back home

After all day yesterday and today at the hospital, they are discharging Mrs. Van Voorhis and allowing her to return home tonight. Her wounds are continuing to be dressed and will be treated by the home health care nurses that have been coming out to their house.

Please continue to keep Mrs. Van Voorhis in your prayers as she heals and regains strength.

I will most likely stay here tomorrow and return home on Wednesday. J

Mrs. VV is back in the hospital

Well, she went to the ER yesterday morning and they admitted her last night. She has some abcesses in the wound area and one has a fistula – which is a break through from the bowels to the external wound. I drove up here to Greenville yesterday afternoon and arrived before 10:00 to give Mr. VV a break and let him head home for the night.

She is hoping to be discharged today but we’re waiting to see what the drs and the nurses say.

Appreciate your continued prayers for her recovery and that she remains strong physically, spiritually and emotionally. She has been encouraged by the prayers of so many people.

Sam is holding down the fort in PV while I’m up here – hopefully making myself useful for a few days.

We’ll post when we get any new info. J

Rock the Universe

Just got back today from a weekend in Orlando with the kids (& Sam) for “Rock the Universe”. The kids and I have gone down to Disney’s “Night of Joy” concerts for the past few years – and they wanted to go to Universal’s version of it this year. Sam doesn’t enjoy the crowds and the mayhem, but he didn’t want to spend the weekend at home alone – so he drove down with us and just hung out at the hotel when we were at the parks and concerts.

We left directly from school on Friday and after checking in to the hotel we went to Universal and listened to concerts by Pillar, David Crowder Band, Jeremy Camp and Switchfoot (which was our favorite – and interestingly enough, will soon be opening for the Dave Matthews Band). We got back to the hotel a bit before midnight.

Saturday we slept in a bit and went over to the Islands of Adventure for a few hours and rode some roller coasters and also got a few water rides in. Everyone was a bit soggy anyway from the rainy drizzle we had that day. We were able to have a little down time before heading back to the park for the evening concerts. Saturday night we heard The Afters, Hawk Nelson, Casting Crowns and Toby Mac.

Great concerts and great time with the kids. Now time for this old lady to rest and recover. :)

update

Hey all – Mrs. VV is back at home now. Turns out that she is a “carrier” for MRSA, but the abcess/infection in her incision was not specifically related to that. She is happy to be back at home and appreciates prayers for her continued recovery. J

Continued prayers for Sam’s mom

She was admitted back into the hospital in Greenville early labor day. They have determined that she has a MRSA infection and are doing a test to see if she has a fistula to see if the infection has gone elsewhere into her body. This obviously has been frustrating and tiring for them as recovery from her surgery has been slow.

Sam was supposed to go up to New York today on business, but decided to head up to South Carolina to be with his parents.

We’ll keep the site up to date on any new information as we get it. Thanks for your prayers and support. J

Just returned from Canada

Sam & I just returned home today from a week in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. We flew up with our friends Larry & Nancy and stayed with friends Pat & Betty Ann who split their time between Ponte Vedra and Cape Breton. We spent the week playing golf, eating great seafood, enjoying fabulous weather and sharing stories and laughing – a lot. Never like to be away from the kids for too long (this was 6 nights) – but they had school and hung out with my parents and spent some time with friends as well.

Sam & I hadn’t been up to Canada for years, and it was just as beautiful as before. This was a first time for Nova Scotia, and the weather couldn’t have been better. We were able to take a few nice hikes – one of them we walked past 2 moose! We also took a gorgeous sail boat ride and were able to see quite a few bald eagles that were diving down for fish in the water. Absolutely amazing.

Great time with friends – no tv or newspapers all week – so a good getaway. Thankfully I did have my blackberry, so I was able to keep in contact with the kids and my parents by texting and checking e-mails.

We’ve posted a bunch of pictures on our flickr site. Enjoy! J
