The Van Voorhis Christmas

Wow, what a busy Christmas season this has been! Tons of preparations for Christmas itself and for Mr. & Mrs. Van Voorhis’ 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration. We left for Greenville on Thursday the 20th and began setting things up for the anniversary party on the 21st. 50 years is an amazing thing – and there were plenty of family and friends there to celebrate. We decorated the church gym, had a fabulous cake made to replicate their wedding cake (made by their neighbor) and enjoyed a night sharing memories. A great family to be added to :) Sam & I only have 36+ years to make it to 50!

After tearing down the following morning, we opened presents with all 11 of the grandkids/cousins – quite a chaotic scene, but enjoyed by all. We then drove up to the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC to have a family weekend together. All was well with the exception of the steering going out on the Lexus – leading to quite a hassle for Sam in getting it towed, fixed, getting rental car, etc…… We enjoyed a family dinner together the first night, and the second night the adults had a great steak dinner while the sitters held down the fort with the kids. Throughout the weekend, we enjoyed swimming, ping pong and viewing the gingerbread houses.

On Sunday, the girls took a break and went to the spa while Sam & Drew took 6 of the kids to see National Treasure – they deserved hazard pay for that one, but all seemed to enjoy it. Monday had us all going our separate ways and Sam & I and the kids went back to Grandma & Grandpas for Christmas eve. We woke up early on Christmas day (4:00) and drove back to PV in time to open our family stockings/gifts before noon (a prerequisite, according to Ethan).

A ping-pong table was the surprise gift that has been played for many hours and will be used my many a visitor to the VV PV house (hint, hint – one more reason to visit!). After a nap, we went to my parents house for Christmas dinner with them and an opening of presents from John/Kori’s family via I-chat. Mom got an extra Christmas present with a tooth ache that turned into a root canal later in the week – Merry Christmas!

Thursday after Christmas I drove up to Kiawah Island, SC for a fun “Christmas recovery” girls weekend with my friend Elizabeth from Ohio. A great time relaxing and visiting – with a less than fun drive home last night – but nice to get away. Unfortunately, Sam had his own, but less fun getaway with a drive back up to Greenville to bring back the rental car and pick up the Lexus that was finally fixed on Friday. He took Ethan with him & they drove back yesterday as well.

We’re all home now and tearing down the Christmas decorations. Staying home for New Year’s Eve and trying to stay awake till the ball drops at midnight. School starts up on Thursday, and we leave Friday night to head down to New Orleans to cheer on THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES for a national championship.

Never dull in the VV household! Sorry for the long post – thanks for hanging in there with us! J
