Rain, rain go away

OK, we went for weeks without rain, now we’ve gotten more than we need for a while in the last 3 days…. I feel like we’re going to float away. Monday we needed to drain the pool because it was literally overflowing with rain water and today we might need to do it again. Gators and turtles are all over the lagoon, wandering aimlessly since their homes must have been temporarily flooded out.

No tennis in almost a week, I’m going through withdrawal. At least with the rain I’m home and getting some more things done around the house.

That’s about it for us! J

VV update

Hey all – been a while since I’ve posted, but we’re doing well. Sam’s traveling (last week Wash DC, New Orleans, Delhi), this week Boston, Columbus, next week NC and the following week South Dakota and back to DC. Ahhhhh, the joys of retirement :)

We’re holding our own here – working on school projects, trying to get the house in order. I’ve finally put the first half of our summer trip pictures in photo albums (5 of them so far – albums, not photos).

Last weekend I joined Sam in Louisiana to meet up with his Uncle Paul and Aunt Linda who we haven’t seen in years. As a bonus, his cousin Mary Linda and her husband Charles and daughter Mary Hastings (yep, alot of Linda’s and Marys!) and hung out with them for the weekend in Delhi. A great time was had by all – good food, lots of laughs and good conversation. Even a new pair of shoes for me :) Nice to relax and enjoy time with family.

As we were driving from Baton Rouge up to Delhi, I realized we were driving through Natchez, Mississippi – where my cousin Sheri and her family lives. I gave my Aunt Mary (yes, another one) a call and got Sheri’s #. On the way back we were able to stop by thier house and visit with her and her husband Bart and their daughters Laruel and Lanie. Again, haven’t seen them in years, but so wonderful to stop and spend a little time catching up.

That’s about it for the moment. Anna’s practicing her flute and Ethan is picking up his room (supposedly). Off to bed early tonight – need to get my tennis game face on for another match tomorrow. :) J

Happy Birthday Grandpa VV

A few pictures from our weekend away in Richmond, Virginia to celebrate Grandpa VV’s 75th birthday. Sam’s sister Julie graciously offered her house (brave woman) for all of us to congregate and celebrate. Sam’s parents came up from Greenville, and siblings Tim (Lynchburg) and Elizabeth (Fredricksburg) came in with their families.

The kids had a great time playing outside and inside and in every room possible of the house :) It was a great time to hang with the family and catch up with all the cousins. We also were able to meet the kids of Sam’s sister’s (Julie) fiance Scott. The kids really enjoyed meeting and getting to know them.

Mr. VV opened his gifts and we all enjoyed a catered dinner at Julie’s house. The next day we went to church together and had a great lunch of Mrs. VV’s spaghetti. Thankfully we can do this all again around Christmas when we will celebrate Mr. & Mrs. Van Voorhis’ 50th wedding anniversary. A great year of special occasions.

Back home and back into the swing of things in PV. Will try to keep posting here and there. Remember to follow the link to the Flickr site if you’d like to see more photos. J
