Rio…alive and well (fed)
May 31, 2007 at 5:28 pm (Uncategorized)
More tonight…but we are well and having a good time in Rio… This is not the most kid friendly city — with an abundance of hustlers harassing you on the beach and on the street. And you need to be careful at night…you constantly see people watching you.
But it is beautiful here to be sure. Went to Sugarloaf today…will post a pic or two tonight. Touring tomorrow with a bilinqual local guide.
Brazilian barbeque means unlimited supplies of meat are dropped onto your plate in regular intervals until you cry uncle…and I need to watch it or none of the three pairs of pants I have for the next 72 days will fit.
Julie and the kids are at the Copacabana pool with a bunch of hip European men in Speedos. Good time to have bad eyes. (Sam)
Making progress

Well, we’re in the Atlanta airport and have 2 hours before we leave for Rio. We’ve ditched the Buenos Aires portion of the trip and added a day in Rio since we were cut short by a day from our false start last night. Kids are doing well so far – we’ll see how we all really are after an overnight flight. Anna says hi to her friends and encourages them to ask her questions they might have. Ethan seems to be coming down with a cold, but we’re hoping it’s just allergies and will go away quickly. Ready to get on the move. We’ll post again when we’re in Brazil! (Julie)
The waiting and the inability to control our own destiny is tough on a type A like me. I am trying to begin to train (trick) my mind to tolerate the inevitability of travel woes. We quickly adjusted our itinerary last night…and I am thankful that we will be starting with 3 days in one city and in one hotel, after the kids first overnight flight. My biggest worry is the intensity of the travel schedule…especially with 3 continents in the first 8 days. Game on. (Sam)
DELTA (Doesn’t Ever Leave The Airport)

We are at home…in Ponte Vedra for one more night.
Delta couldn’t make the intercom work…and so we never left Jacksonville. (And you wonder why they had to file bankruptcy.)
We are flying straight to Rio tomorrow…adding a day to this leg and abandoning Buenos Aires…
The kids were sad…but hung in there. Although Ethan told the gate agent to talk to the hand when he made excuses about why we couldn’t board the plane.
At least we are packed for tomorrow.
The first of what undoubtedly will be several travel adventures.
Just hours,not days

We’ve had a count down at our house for a while, andnow it’s amazing to see it’s in the hours and not days anymore. Appreciate your prayers while we travel. 6:15 out of JAX tomorrow, then out of Atlanta at 8:45 or so and overnight to Buenos Aires. The fun begins!
Almost there….

We’re down to the last few days – only 4 more nights at home. Can’t wait to get started. So glad that so many of our friends and family will be following along with us. Appreciate your prayers as we travel!
